Located in Wuhan, the capital city of central China’s Hubei province, Hubei University is adjacent to the largest lake----- the Sha Lake within the inner ring road of the urban area. Its nearly eight-decade development turns Hubei University into a key comprehensive university with distinctive local features. It owns 15 faculties, offering 58 undergraduate (bachelor degree) programs, 12 master’s degree on discipline level, and 106 master’s degree on specialized subjects. It also has 7 degree programs of professional master, 9 doctoral degrees on specialized subjects and 3 post-doctoral academic research centers on discipline level. The enrollment of full-time undergraduates and junior college students amounts to 16,000, PhD and postgraduates 3,500.

Since 1960s, Hubei University has lunched the program of the international education of Chinese language, with over 40 years’ history up to now. By 1990s, the university has enjoyed a rapid development on overseas students’ education:
1. increasing in student enrollment with over 100 overseas students studying regularly in campus;
2. improving in training level, shifting from non-academic credentials education to academic ones, and from undergraduate education to postgraduate education. Since 2003, the university started to enroll master candidates majoring in teaching Chinese as a foreign language;
3. The university widened the scale of school running by promoting its international education of Chinese language from home to abroad. It has established two Confucius Institutes in cooperation with Memphis University of the United States and University of S?o Paulo of Brazil respectively.

The university owns a complete range of disciplines in humanities and social sciences, providing a solid academic support for the training of talents in international education of Chinese language. Its faculties of arts include Arts, History, Education, Foreign Languages, Philosophy, Creative Art, etc. It has one doctoral program on Chinese ancient literature (a sub-discipline of Chinese language and literature), and master programs on Chinese language and literature, curriculum and teaching methodology, foundations of education, developmental and educational psychology, foreign linguistics & applied linguistics and communication. The university has 4 research facilities of humanities and social sciences on a provincial level, 1 discipline research facility for talents training on basic subjects, and set up two provincial experimental classes for the renovation of the training model of Arts talents. Hubei University also enjoys abundant teaching resources on Chinese language teaching. Among the 25 core staffs in the teaching body in this area, 8 teachers own professor title, 7 associate professor title, 10 are lecturers. 16 of them have gained a doctor’s degree, while 5 teachers are qualified of being sending to other countries by the country to teach Chinese as a foreign language. Yi Hongchuan, Zeng Xiangxi, Wang Ruoxuan have long been in the area of teaching Chinese as a foreign language; Zhang Qingzong, Li Xiangkun have long been in the area of Chinese culture promotion; Guo Kangsong, Hu Jingxian and Yang Yuangang are knowledgeable in Chinese language. All these teachers make up of a highly experienced teaching body with rich teaching practices, which is of a high level and reasonable teaching framework and bears strong team spirit and dynamism. Since 2001, the Chinese language disciplines of the university has undertaken 5 national programs of social and scientific fund, publishing over 10 works and 130 thesis which include two thesis published on “Chinese” and over 60 on CSSCI.
